Tower of Power

Funk pioneers celebrating their 55th anniversary, Tower of Power join forces with today’s funk torchbearers Lettuce, announce a two-set, one-night-only show in New Orleans with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The show will take place at the iconic Saenger Theatre on April 28 on the first Friday night of the 2023 iteration of Jazz Fest.

Lettuce, whose 2019 release Elevate was nominated for a Grammy, wrapped up a big 2022 with a series of cross-United States tour dates as well as a leg in Europe alongside the release of their newest album, Unify. The band—Adam Deitch (drums), Ryan Zoidis (saxophone), Adam ‘Shmeeans’ Smirnoff(guitar), Erick ‘Jesus’ Coomes (bass), Nigel Hall (keyboards/vocals), Eric ‘Benny’ Bloom (trumpet)—have cemented their role as groove disciples for the next generation with Unify; proudly becoming funk’s torchbearers for all booty shakers, young and old.

In the same vein, Tower of Power who becomes 55 years young in 2023, is continuing to wow audiences across the globe. “We were a soul band called the Motowns,” shared Tower of Power founder and bandleader Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player, I was there and my brother was the drummer. I met Doc back in 1968 and gave him an audition. He came in the band and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.”
